Jinmenken from Monster Party (NES)

My and my brothers liked Monster Party for the NES; we played it quite a bit when we were younger.

It's a pretty fun game- even if it's kinda "everywhere".

I would certainly love to give all of the game's minor and major characters a chance to have some rendered artwork in my gallery; this is my take on one of the more "wtf" Monster Party first level enemies: a jinmenken.

The sprite had these big, goofy black eyes, a tongue that hung down from it's open mouth, and a red body with yellow spots. With how the eyes looked, I chose to interpret them as sunken in eyes with small, shiny regular eyes instead of big shiny black eyes. I made the ear black instead of flesh-tone because it looked better to me. I made the spots a bit more subtle- I honestly wanted to make the spots puss-filled warts from just being evil, disgusting creatures that would roll around the levels blood and bone platforms and get all kinds of nasty shit from doing that. I didn't opt for that because it just felt like it'd be me doing it just for the shock value. Or the attempt of it.
When I drew this, my playlist was on the original Dawn of the Dead soundtrack, which made me think of Day of the Dead(which came later in my playlist anyway) and the zombie that was missing it's lower jaw. I assume not all the jinmenken in Monster Party would be missing it's lower jaw, but just this one- maybe a few others.

The red eye is because dammit I love making shit glow.

The dog pose was adapted from a reference I found online of a dog in motion. I used my phone to find the reference, and have since cleared my history, but I'll post the link when I can c: (about to get some sleep, so unfortunately not willing to google search at the moment).
