I hardly ever draw much outside of a sketchbook these days; I've been coloring almost nonstop for the longest time now.
I wanted to work on a few commissions between working today, but without a scanner, it's kinda moot. Drew these in Photoshop CS2 to take a breather from colors.
So here's the study break down clockwise from left: Thunderclash: I used General Pershing as influence- something lost with the helmet on. Since according to his Botcon '09 tech specs( on Botcon.com), have him as a commander during Kup's youth, I wanted to play up his age and use the WWI general. There's no real purpose for it other than that. The curves on the sides of his helmet are actually slightly inspired by a photo of Pershing(wikipedia ftw); he had wavy hair. G2 Dreadwing: In the Japanese Beast Wars II series, G2 Dreadwing was used and called "BB". For some reason that name and the way his original G2 figure looked reminded me of Mr. T(BB = B. A. Baracus), so I had fun with that idea. Made me chuckle a little . I figure This guy'd be the tough guy between him and G2 Smokescreen; " Ah pity da foo!" Optimus Primal(bat version): OBVIOUS play on Batman in this one. Changed the bat-ear-type color and added extra lines in an attempt to make the homage subtle. FAIL, I think. G2 Smokescreen: I think if he existed in TF:A, he'd probably be renamed Smokejumper since Smokescreen is a pre-existing character in G1 and it might confuse people. There wasn't much to play off of with his design, unfortunately. I just opted for giving him a slightly large head since I consider him to be the brains of the the Dreadwing/Smokescreen crew. Tux: Random clicking around in TFU.info led me to this fanastic Renegade(Gobots). I always kinda liked the idea of a robot with a top hat; seems neat. I tried to play up the luxuriousness with more gold and a dark hat. I STRUGGLED TO NOT GIVE HIM A MONOCLE; after all, I think Blitzwing has that market down. I wanted to give him a snooty richman appearance; I think he looks more like a lame Batman Beyond villian... Wheelie: If I had to say which one I was proudest with, it's this one. I borrowed from Little Pete(Danny Tamberelli's character from the Adventures of Pete & Pete); at first it was a lot more obvious, but I toned it down and lost the original caricature. Now it just looks like a kid; shoulda kept the freckles and hat flaps.
ANYWHO. These aren't the best, but yeah, I figured I needed to upload something that WASN'T just my colors. Speaking of, I gotta get back to work.
I guess that's it.
